* تفسير Tafsir al-Tustari

{ وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا فِي قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّبِيٍّ إِلاَّ أَخَذْنَا أَهْلَهَا بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَضَّرَّعُونَ }

And We did not send a prophet to any city but that We seized its people with misery and hardship…He [Sahl] said:This means they lost their hearts through their lack of knowledge, and because of severe hardshipin their lives, such that they became preoccupied with their world[ly concerns] to the exclusion of their [concern for the] Hereafter.
